2024年未来への旅（ローガイズラン）

ジジイがいっぱいいる、昨今。絶望列島では世代衝突が起こるべくして起こる。食物連鎖、自然のハイエラルキーを知恵で書き換える戦略で乗り越えてきた我々の種は、何処迄も、なすがままの自然に対しても自分たちの種族同士に対しても不誠実だ。共に、崇高な理念を信じつつ、理想の階段を登りつつ有る途中でも、互いに、どの時点で謀略を仕掛けるのが自らにとって有利なのかを画策している。抜駆けさせない為のルールを張り巡らし、抜穴を探し、強迫性に駆られ欲を満たす。
世代交代は自然のハイエラルキーの最たるもの。世代間の争いは老いたるものが消え去って結末を迎える事が決まっている。がしかし、少子化、少数の「次世代」が受け取るのは、その資源が食い荒らされた世界。知恵とは程遠く本能に従って、全力で既得権を行使する老いたるもの達は、知ってか知らずか、少子化という緩慢な子殺しを行っていると言えなくもない。
一方で本能は老いたるもの自身、心安らかに迎える結末を用意する事も許さない。
食い合うように設計された理不尽なシステム。人の良い、好々爺の大往生は夢のまた夢か。

Geezers are all over the place, these days. In an archipelago of despair, generational conflicts are bound to occur. Our species, which has overcome the food chain and the hierarchy of nature with a strategy of rewriting nature’s hierarchy with wisdom, has been disloyal to nature and to our own species, which is at the mercy of nature. We both believe in noble ideals, but even as we are climbing the steps of our ideals, we are plotting with each other to determine when it is advantageous for us to launch our schemes. They set up rules to prevent them from being overtaken, look for loopholes, and satisfy their greed driven by compulsiveness.
Generational change is the highest level of the natural hierarchy. Generational conflicts are bound to end when the old ones disappear. However, the birthrate is declining, and what the few “next generation” will receive is a world whose resources have been devoured. It could be said that the old, who follow their instincts far from wisdom and exercise their vested rights with all their might, are knowingly or unknowingly committing slow infanticide through the declining birthrate.
On the other hand, instinct does not allow the old to prepare a peaceful ending for themselves.
It is an unreasonable system designed to eat each other. Is it a dream come true for a good-natured, good-natured old man to live a long life?
